Selecting, moving and resizing

This section is about turning a pile of components into a layout: getting each thing to the exact place it will really sit, at the size it will really be, so the gaps you can see in the 3D view are the gaps you will have in the van.

Click an object in the 3D view or the Object List to select it. The Inspector opens beside it, and everything you can do to that object is there: where it sits, how big it is, how it is finished, and what it weighs and costs.

Two ways in, always: drag the coloured handles in the 3D view for a quick approximate move, or type an exact figure into the Inspector. VanCAD stores every length in millimetres, so a typed value is exact whichever units you are reading.

  • The Inspector - the panel itself, its pages, and the duplicate and delete actions.
  • Move, rotate and resize - the three tools, the per-axis steppers, and the reset actions.
  • Snapping - snapping an object flush to the van’s surfaces or to other objects while you drag.
  • Fitting objects - trimming to the van’s interior, recessing into the shell cavity, and cutting into overlapping objects - for panels that follow a curved wall or a sink set into a worktop.
  • Appearance - colours, custom colours, and material textures.
