Sending feedback

VanCAD is built by one person, and the fastest way to change what gets worked on next is to say so. The Feedback button in the toolbar sends a bug report or a feature request straight to us, from inside the design you are looking at.

What it is. A toolbar button, grouped with the other learn-the-app controls at the right of the bar. It opens a small form. Desktop and mobile browsers both have it; it is only shown when you are signed in, because feedback is attached to your account so we can come back to you about it.

What it does. You pick a type first - Bug or Feature - and the form’s wording follows the choice. A bug asks what went wrong and, optionally, the steps to reproduce it; a feature asks what you would like to see and, optionally, more detail. A feature request also offers an optional importance - Nice to have, Would really help, Must have - which is a plain signal to us about how much it matters to you, not a queue position. Only the one-line summary is required.

What is attached automatically. So a bug report is actionable without you having to describe your setup, each submission carries the app version and build, your browser’s user-agent string and window size, the van model you are working on, and how many objects your design contains. It never includes your design, its name, your email address, or anything you have typed anywhere else in the app - only the summary and detail you wrote in this form.

Options and limits. The summary is capped at 200 characters and the detail at 4,000. A free account can send three submissions per 24 hours; with a subscription that rises to 100. The form tells you your own limit, and past it the send is refused with a note saying so - the limit is enforced on our side rather than only in the form. Sending is one-way: there is no reply thread in the app, and we may email you at your account address if we need more.

After a while spent designing, a card may appear beside this button inviting you to send us something. It is shown at most once, it never returns after you dismiss it or use it, and it never appears at all once you have sent feedback from this browser.

What it affects. Nothing about your design. The form can be closed at any time before you send, and a failed send leaves what you wrote in place so you can try again.
